Friendship Factor Project – Weaving a scarf on a rigid heddle loom.

The Friendship Factor Project is a wonderful time to spend with your friends or others weaving, crocheting, knitting or other crafts. Spending time with others is always enjoyable especially when you are creating. Lisa and I live in different countries and have enjoyed creating new hand woven pieces together while learning many techniques along the way. Recently we had progressed to making more complicated pieces and felt we need a breather to weave a more simple structure that was still interesting and enjoyable. When we found the “A Walk with Buddy Free Woven Scarf Pattern – Hill Country Weavers” we knew it was the perfect project to make. We used a rigid heddle loom to weave this scarf. A mini review of this wonderful pattern from both of us is noted below.

This scarf was a pleasure to make. My favorite part was watching all of the colors come together. As I was making it my mind whirled on all of the possible combinations that I could do with the stash I have on hand. I used Knit Pick Palette yarn which is a lovely merino wool. I love patterns like that. Once in a while it’s just fun to slow down and do a pattern that is easy to warp and easy to weave. This pattern is that.  The finished product would make a lovely gift.  Perhaps you could also play with the pattern a bit to incorporate other yarn types for different outcomes, such as an asymmetrical table runner or a blanket. That is definitely a possibility to explore in the future.

I agree with Lisa that this scarf was a pleasure to make. It was the perfect addition to our Friendship Factor Projects and gave us a nice break from the more complicated weaving techniques we were learning. The pattern was very well written and an easier pattern to use for beginners and intermediate weavers. A wonderful design that can be easily changed by adding other colours as Lisa did in her beautiful scarf. I love how both scarves look completely different yet they are the same pattern. I used SweetGeorgia Yarns Cashluxe Fine on my scarf and it turned out so soft and drapes wonderfully. I will definitely make this design again.
