Happy New Year – My first new scarf design for 2015

Happy New Years to all of you.  I just finished, literally, my first new scarf design for 2015.  Last year I decided to make the first scarf design of the year for myself to start the year and give myself a bit of a bonus for all the work I did in the previous year.  This year since my biggest inspiration and joy in design has been working on my Architectural collection I decided to make this new addition to the collection.  I am so excited to continue this venture this year as there are many ideas I must design and continue my journey of Architecture and the inspiration that it beholds.

This is my newest member of the Architectural collection, the Stone Tracery Rose Window scarf, Long version.  Made with hand painted merino wool in an ivory stone colour and a darker beige to show a the shadow effect and darker features of the window beneath the stone tracery.  Edged in stone tracery with crockets on the edges found on my Gothic Cathedrals and Architecture of the past.  Three different sizes of Rose Windows adorn this scarf to add a tapered look and finish to the design.

I am happy with the outcome as if you look back at my other smaller designs you will see my progression towards this scarf.  It’s a wonderful moment when you achieve in your finished design what you have been busy designing in your head and at last see the finished product.  I have enjoyed every moment of the Architectural venture and can’t wait to begin some bigger projects on my list.

Stay tuned to see more as I am currently working on a version of the Stone Tracery Rose Window long scarf at the top with the stained glass rose window in the background.  This scarf above as well as many others are available on my Etsy store at http://www.valeriebaberdesigns.etsy.com   I also sell at other stores locally like the Alberta Craft Council Gallery store http://www.albertacraft.ab.ca  and the Art Gallery of St. Albert http://www.artgalleryofstalbert.ca

Look Who Came to Dinner…Susanna Kearsley! The recent RITA (Romance Writers of America) award winner for Paranormal Romance Winner, Congratulations Susanna for such a wonderful and amazing achievement! Susanna was recently in St. Albert, Alberta, Canada for the Star Fest. I had the pleasure of going to the wonderful event where Susanna Kearsley, http://www.susannakearsley.com, talked about writing and her book the Firebird. If you haven’t read the Firebird or her other books they are must reads. Susanna carries you through her books with such wonderful visual written words. Her descriptions let you travel with the characters from the present to the past to amazing destinations and eras of history. You easily loose your self in her writing and feel as if you are there watching the book unravel the trail to the conclusion of the great adventure.

Eva Stanchniak, http://www.evastachniak.com, was also talking about her latest books Empress of the Night and The Winter Palace. It was a wonderful time listening to two well written Authors and their different styles of writing, techniques, research and process they make during the journey from the start to the finished book. Both Authors were intrigued by Catherine the Great in their latest books. It amazing me how each person with a creative necessity has their own way of going through the process of an idea to a finished product. I say necessity for a reason, creative people NEED to create. It is who they are, you can’t stop them. Their minds are always working on the next thing at the same time working on the current task. It’s what makes listening to other creative people in various disciplines so interesting, you learn that the creative path is different for everyone.

My dear friend Susana Kearsley brought me a special gift:
Her newest book “a Desperate Fortune”! How exciting to read before it is in the stores. Thanks Susanna for this most wonderful gift. I will blog about her latest book soon.

If you haven’t guessed it was Susanna Kearsley who came to dinner. I miss the days we lived in the same neighborhood when we could chat any time. It has been 7 years since I have seen Susanna and I was thrilled to spend the rest of the evening with her. Of course I had a bit of work for her to do before I fed her, I thought it only fair that she work for her dinner. 🙂 There were a few books for her to sign I had been collecting since I moved away from the old neighborhood. It kept her busy for a while, but don’t worry I fed her afterwards so it was a pretty good deal, at least for me. We had a great time catching up and just enjoying spending time together like old friends. Thanks Susanna for coming by and thanks to the St. Albert Library for inviting one of my dearest friends to the Star Fest. If you have a chance to listen to Susanna Kearsley in your neighborhood do go, you won’t regret it.

Notice the book she is signing in this picture. A Desperate Fortune, her latest book. Can’t wait to read this book, she tells me there are some great surprises.

What a true pleasure it was to listen to both of these wonderful Canadian Authors who have this wonderful love for history. I know reading Susanna’s various books have helped inspire my desire to work on my Architectural Collection. I will be working on a new collection based on her latest book in the future that will fit in with my Architectural Collection. Thanks Susanna for such a wonderful visit. Can’t wait to see you soon.

Stained Glass Rose Window Scarves

The newest additions to my Stained Glass Rose Window scarves includes several new designs. The first two are my larger collar versions with a different more 3D effect to accentuate the beautiful carved stone on Gothic and other Architecture of the past. You can read more about my Architectural Collection in my past blogs or check out my Etsy store for more information at http://www.valeriebaberdesigns.etsy.com The Stained Glass ear warmer is perfect to keep you warm and add that special unique touch to your wardrobe. I will be working on some fingerless gloves to go with the Stained Glass Collection soon. One of the larger scarves in this collection is shown in the last picture. It will be available in various colours down the road that have a stone wall colour way.

The Architectural Collection is my most recent inspiration and I am so very excited to continue this path. So many more designs in my mind to knit or crochet so pop by soon for more unique designs. I hope you are inspired to try something new today. You never know where that will lead.

Thanksgiving Play of the day…knit and crochet

sunrise feburary2

Thanksgiving Play of the day…knit and crochet will be a new style of blogging my work for my creative process.  As I mentioned in my last blog I like to take moments to just create taking some needles and yarn and start playing with ideas to see what I come up with.  I may post pictures of my inspiration as well.  These will be my Play of the day blogs.

I am fortunate to have the most amazing sunrises behind our house and I am often taking pictures of these amazing painted skies.  Each day it is different and usually take my breath away.  A most wonderful way to start the day.  This time of year and through the winter are my favourites.  Likely because the sun is  rising right around the time I am grabbing my morning coffee.   There is so much colour inspiration in a sunrise or sunset.  Just spend a few minutes watching them and see the colours change.  It’s a constant inspiration in those precious moments as you stand watching the sun bring the day or settle the nights sky.  The colours here are very fall like perfect for Thanksgiving.  I wish you all who celebrate Thanksgiving this weekend a wonderful time.

Below are some of my designs inspired by the stunning orange sunsets and beautiful fall days.
