Free Pattern: Coffee Time Cowl Scarf Knitting Pattern

This pattern and other FREE patterns are available on my Ravelry at: Ravelry: Designs by Valerie Baber

Perfect east to knit cowls to enjoy making on your “coffee break” or any moment to calm the day and relax. Includes pattern for the Accordian Cowl and the “Layered Look” Cowl. The Coffee Time Cowl Collection is inspired by taking moments in the day to create something special for yourself or someone you care about. I wanted to design an easy to knit cowl that can dress up any wardrobe. You can use a variety of yarns to achieve your own style. A nice relaxing design and pattern to knit during your coffee time or anytime you have a spare moment in the day.

Examples of the yarns you can use include Malabrigo Mecha which was used in the pictures below ( malabrigoyarn.com). On the pictures above I used SweetGeorgia Yarns (sweetgeorgiayarns.com) Chunky weight on the layered look cowl and 2 worsted weight yarns of different types together on the Accordian Cowl with the button.

Yarn:

Chunky weight, for each scarf you  need: 1 skein approximately 115 yds or 105 m in length in gauge below.  Any chunky weight yarn can be used   I also used Sweetgeorgia Yarns Superwash Six hand painted merino wool.   Works great using 2 strands of worsted weight yarn with similar results, slightly bigger as shown in pictures on the back.

Gauge for Chunky weight yarn: 3.5 stitches wide by 4.5 stitches tall in a 1 inch square done in stocking stitch.

Needle Size:   Round,  I used a  6 mm or US 10,  24 inches long.

I have been wanting to write some easy to knit patterns that most people could make for a while.  When I received this amazing yarn from Malabrigo the other week I was immediately inspired to design one.  The Mecha Kettle Dyed Merino Wool is like butter in your hands, lusciously soft with the stunning colours to entice you along your knitted path.  I knew I had to use this yarn for my first free scarf pattern.

In order to keep it easy I worked it in the round with a few rows of lace to add that special elegant touch yet a modern feel with the stripes done in purl stitch adding texture to the design.  The vibrant colour choice, Volcan #227 is so wonderful with it’s orange to a nice rust tone.  The Mecha comes in other amazing colours, view them here at www.malabrigoyarns.com  It was a real treat to work with such wonderful colours and quality of yarn.  I highly suggest you try out their beautiful yarns if you haven’t yet.  They are very addictive!

You can view some of my other designs with this wonderful yarn at my new Etsy store www.luxefiberknits.etsy.com  The Luxe Fiber Knits collection will be various designs that bring the exquisite yarns to life with texture and style.  I will be using high end yarns such as Malabrigo Yarns, ArtYarns, Hand Spun Yarns other specialty yarns to complete these designs. Less embellished give these designs a lighter price tag with the same high end quality of my other designs.  The Mecha by Malabrigo will be one of the feature yarns used on designs on Luxe Fiber Knits.
