Elegant Rose Scarf, hand warmers and arm warmers are new at www.valeriebaberdesign.com This new style of Elegant Rose Collection is done on a crochet base with an Victorian Lace essence. I love Architecture of the past and I am often inspired by design and fashion of past Era’s. This design is available in various colours here that include ivory, soft gray, soft periwinkle, gray and dark gray:
The Floral Crochet Archi Scarf has an Architecture Edge to the design with the colours of stone used in these beautiful buildings as well as the Crockets and circular style of the scarf similar to the rose windows seen in these amazing buildings. A floral touch with a quatrofoil button finishes off the design. Available in other colours and made with hand painted merino wool. Shown with the Classic Edge hand warmers to compliment this design. Calm your day with my newest knitting pattern…Calming Cables Fingerless Gloves. You can choose to knit the cabled pattern or a ribbed pattern with 2 different lengths to knit. One skien of the Malabrigo Rios yarn used will make 2 to 3 sets of fingerless gloves depending on the style and length you choose. The Calming Cables is a classic design that can be made with various types of yarns of worsted weight. Change it up throughout the year with different yarns to suit the seasons.
Malabrigo Rios is a worsted weight yarn that is hand painted in beautiful colours. I used the Solis on the teal set, Zaramora for the second set and Liquadambar on the last set.
My inspiration for the Calming Cables Fingerless Gloves was the hand painted yarns I used to make them. The colours and texture mix of the cables enhanced the design making it a classic choice for anyone to wear. Make them in a cool cotton for the warmer days and add the warmth of merino wool or other fibres in cooler days.
I love working with hand painted yarns that have been lovingly painted by various Artists adding another dimension and a special touch to each skein of yarn. I wanted to design a more simple pattern that you could knit when you wanted to calm your busy day, yet still interesting enough to carry you along to the finished state. The best part is watching how all the colours come alive with the texture and style of the design. Cables are a wonderful way to enhance hand painted yarns.
Opera Art Project Anniversary Collar scarf and hand warmers. The Edmonton Opera is having their 50th Anniversary this Opera Season. To help celebrate this wonderful moment and year I decided my designs for the Opera Art Project would be a combination of all 3 Opera’s in the colours of their 50th Anniversary theme. The Edmonton Opera started with their first Opera being Madama Butterfly and fittingly are topping off this year with the very same Opera. What a wonderful way to make tribute to all 50 years of incredible talent and hard work.
The Opera Art 50th Anniversary Neck warmer scarf is done in black with gold trim. The trim is made with 100% beaded silk for the Golden 50th Anniversary. I made a second one in black with red trim the colour of the Cherry Blossom and other parts of Madama Butterfly. On each of these neck warmers you see the lace edge which symbolizes the “dance of the 7 veils” in the Opera, Salome. The Full Moon is also a big part of the first Salome, Opera this season.
In the second Opera, Die Fledermaus, there is a pocket watch that has an important role and meaning in this Opera. I stitched some of the clock onto the Full moon on one neck warmer and on the other made a separate clock also on a white face. Each scarf has an additional metal clock face to add a unique touch to the design.
The third Opera, Madama Butterfly is the season ender to celebrate 50 years. The Red Cherry Blossom is done in a merino and silk hand painted yarn and accented with a 100% silk beaded yarn. Cherry Blossoms are seen throughout this magnificent opera in addition I added a metal butterfly to each for this wonderful Opera.
The hand warmers are designed in the same manner with mutual influence from each Opera. There will be other styles for each of the 3 Opera’s this year so pop by again for a peek at what I am working on.
The Opera Art Project is a wonderful collection of local Artists, the Alberta Craft Council and the Edmonton Opera together bringing a new and exciting venue with one of a kind and unique pieces. You can view more about this wonderful project at http://www.albertacraft.ab.ca/special-projects/
There will be pictures of some of the upcoming designs and works by the Opera Art Artists soon at this link above.
Here are a few pictures of the new Eclectic Essence Floral scarf and hand warmers. This was again a custom order by a return customer. She happened to be my first order on Etsy and I was honoured to see her come back for a second batch of my designs. 🙂 This design is my Eclectic Essence set that I brought out last fall, but they were in hand painted colours of purples, blues, orange etc. My customer wanted a black background with red and green accents. I loved the idea right away and off I went to see what I would become. I like how it turned out as the colours add an even more eclectic feel to the overall design, at least in my opinion.
I enjoy making custom orders as it combines both my ideas and the customers into one design. Makes the outcome more special and exciting to see along the way. I must run and get back to working on more of these pieces. Have a wonderful day today.
Eclectic Essence Collar Scarves were one of my new designs last Fall. I wanted to combine various hand painted merino wools with other wonderful fibers including Alpaca, LLama, Cashmere, Silk and other fine yarns. A small collar style neck warmer style scarf that was light, warm and cozy. Then embellish to add that special touch and unique flair to the design.
I used Malabrigo Rios Merino Hand Painted Wool on the bases in two different colour ways to start. Proceeded with various fibers noted above to embellish with flowers and leaves to add some interest in corresponding colours. The Eclectic Essence Collar Scarf adds a unique feel to your wardrobe with lots of colour to brighten those cold winter days.
To compliment the Eclectic Essence Collar Scarf I added some Eclectic Essence Fingerless Gloves. Got to keep your hands warm and toasty so you can keep tweeting, Facebooking and emailing in comfort. I used the same Malabrigo yarn and added Asland Trends Baby Alpaca and Baby Llama to the mix. Gave the hand warmers a bit of ruffle to go with the Eclectic Essence Scarves. Crocheting can be very sculptural and a great way to add that special touch to a design.
I love designing different pieces keeps my mind interested and I find I accomplish more as I am excited to try something new on the next design to see where it goes. I usually have various things going at the same time as this works for me. There will be more designs with and Eclectic Flair later this Fall. Off to play with my needles and some yarn. Have a great one today.
